When it rains...

As this Independence Day nears, Central Iowans are keeping an eye on the river levels as heavy rains this past weekend filled the river basins and several dams are scheduled to top their spillways within thenext day or so. The possibility of impending floods will sure put a damper on 4th of July festivities. Hoping and praying my fellow citizens are spared another bout of water woes.

Meanwhile, I really don't have any big plans for the 4th. A couple kids have to work and I really, really need to write. I goofed off on my day off this week. Yesterday I got up early and took a walk, then rode my bike, worked in the garden for a bit, played tennis, and rode my bike again in the evening. This morning I'm stiff and sore.

Too much of a good thing, I guess.

In the agent search department, I'm saying no news is good news. At least no rejections to report. Meanwhile, I'm working on a new project targeting Harlequin Intrigue. I must say making the switch from 90k word books to 60k is a bit of a challenge but I'm really enjoying the process.

What's up with you? Any big plans for our nation's big day?

Wishing you a safe and spectacular Independence Day!

So, I do something I think is strange every 4th of July. We live in Alexandria, right outside of DC and we spend 2 nights at a hotel in DC to enjoy the festivities. People are usually shocked when they learn we do this! I hate traffic, jams of people on the Metro, and the 2+ hours it would take to drive home. All of the events we attend are only a few blocks from the hotel we stay at and it makes it so much easier and nicer to not have to fight the crowds to get home.

In Canada, July 1st is July 4th, so I'm off to my sister's for the big backyard barbecue today and then a stroll down to the harbour (we live in Halifax) for the fireworks. It's a beautiful day and the evening should be fine with clear skies. It's also the 100th Anniversary of Canada's Navy, so the fleet is in the harbour, including a bunch of visiting ships from allied countries. In fact, the USS Wasp is here taking up an inordinate amount of space along the waterfront (man, that ship is huge). I think the fireworks will be spectacular with all those ships in the foreground. Happy holidays!

Keeping the fingers crossed the waters behave. I have no plans for the holiday weekend, but I bought a condo this week (inspection is in less than an hour!) so I'll be cleaning and hauling most anything not nailed down to the charity store around the corner. :)

I think your 4th of July tradition makes perfect sense, Kris. You take in all the festivities but avoid the unpleasantness of traffic and commute time. And you have additional stress-free family time.

Win-win! And definitely something worth considering.

Oooh! Your Canadian '4th' sounds lovely, Zita. I'd love to see those ships!

Enjoy the day!

Congrats on the condo purchase, Terri! And with the 'down-sizing' that comes with it.

Hope the home inspection goes well. I'm seriously considering a townhome or condo purchase when the kids are out of college and 'settled'. I've been looking on-line in my target communities and they have some really nice listings. And the perk of not having to do my own snow removal or lawn work is vastly appealing.
