Gemma Latest Fashion Accessory

Yes, even though this pic of me is a little blurry, that is exactly what you think it is – a baby bump. :) In an unexpected twist, it turns out that Mr. Big and I are expecting a little bundle of joy. She (everyone think pink here for me, ‘k?) should be making her appearance near the end of September, and I couldn’t be more excited.

As anyone who has been following my relationship with Big knows, this was a bit of a shocker. In fact, I’m pretty sure Big had at least three heart attacks when he found out. (I’m proud to say I only had two.) Remember that episode from "Friends" where Rachel tells Ross ‘we’re pregnant’? Yeah, it was kind like that. Wait, maybe I can even find a clip on youtube… Yay, I did! Okay, here it is. This is what it was like:

But, after the shock wore off, we both got super excited and, I’ll admit, I already have my entire cart at Target Baby filled with adorable little pink things. (So, if it’s a boy, he’s gonna have some issues later in life. Seriously, think girl thoughts.) And, I realized I need everything, because it’s been almost ten years since I last did the baby thing. Just long enough to have forgotten how uncomfortable being pregnant is. Let me just tell you, morning sickness bites. Especially when it’s morning, noon and night. And, how is it fair that, thanks to said morning sickness, I’ve lost five pounds, but my pants are already so tight I had to go buy maternity stuff? And I’m only two months along! Sigh.

So, if anyone has an advice for surviving early pregnancy, I’m all ears. (Or, if you have links to any baby sites full of cutsie little outfits, I’m collecting those as well!)

I love that scene from Friends. :)

When I read your due date all I could think was he gave you more than a designer purse for Christmas. :)

Glad everyone is taking it so well and thinking girlie thoughts for you. :)

Congrats! Sorry, not much help on the morning sickness here. I didn't have it with my son (I've heard boys are a lot easier to carry than girls).

Best I can remember is to eat some saltines BEFORE you get out of bed and hang out there for a few minutes to give the crackers time to get to your belly.

It was the smell of my desktop computer running that always made me a bit sick, but not so bad I ever vomited, course, I didn't stay in my computer room much.

I had one of those pregnancy stages books, but really, just googling Pregnant 8 Weeks will give about all the info you'll ever want to read!

Oh my. I.. Uh.. This is so exciting. Girl thoughts all the way. I had a girl. Thank my lucky stars everytime I see a little guy climbing something. LOL! They make me so nervous when they do that.

I didn't really have morning sickness so I can't help much there. I had about a month of feeling nauseous (sp?) and had saltines at the ready at all times. Seems to have worked. The next six months were a breeze.

Huge congrats! Does this mean you'll be sporting the coolest maternity gown ever at the RITAs? LOL!

Congrats! Thinking Girly thoughts! Our kids are 8 yrs a part and the 2nd was a totally shock for us, lol. We call her our bonus baby. I didn't have morning sickness much with the first (girl) but was sick for 9 mths with the 2nd (GIRL too:). I don't have any real advice there, as it sort of just became routine, srsly.

Best Wishes and happy shopping!

Congrats!!
I had Horrible moring, noon, night, middle of the night sickness. My dad is an Chiropractor/Acupuncturist/Nutritionist and we did ear(auriclar) acupuncture, that made it possible for me to function. We also used whole food supplements. Plus you absorb the whole foods vitamins better b/c it is food and not synthetics. Also eating small meals 6 times a day is helpful. I know this part is hard I remember.
I know you have metioned you have DC, you could ask him if he knows anything about Standard Procees (the WF vitamins)or google SP. or if your are interested I can send ou some info. They are a fabulous company!! Also keep getting your adjustments. If you keep your spine aligned it will help the nausea.
Oh and I had 2 girls with all the morning sickness! so....
Good luck!!

Congratulations!!!!!!

I had two girls but luckily no morning sickness so no help there either.

Terrio, my second girl was a climber. And she hates pink lol.

Congrats Gemma! What exciting news. :)

As far as morning sickness goes, I never had it with my boys, but did indeed have it with my daughter. Anything peppermint helped me. Tea, candies, gum, etc.

A friend of mine used http://www.threelollies.com/ through her pregnancy and raved over them, but I have no personal experience.

More congrats!!!

Lots of pink thoughts headed your way!!!

Wow. Congrats, Gemma!!!

It's been five years since I was last pregnant and I have (conveniently) blocked the entire 9 months from my mind, but when I looked at your pic I thought, "Poor girl is losing brain cells already. She can't do math anymore. No way she can look pregnant so soon." Until I remembered you already have a Gremlin. ;) It is a well-recorded fact that once you've already been pregnant, your body immediately remembers, and as soon as that darn little stick shows a plus sign (or double lines or pink lines or whatever the heck it shows these days those damn tests are ALL different!) your stomach immediately pops out. Lucky for you, maternity fashions have come a looooooooong way in 10 yrs. My daughter is 10 too...remember those big collared shirts and the tent-style tops? ACK! Makes me shudder thinking that far back.

Glad to hear you and Mr. Big are both excited about the new bundle of joy. What does the boy think of the news?

Congratulations! How exciting.

I looked like that at 2 months with my 2nd and they're 11 years apart.

I had horrible morning sickness with my first, false labor and a c-section.

My 2nd I had about a month of feeling sick and that was it except for the last month and a half because I was on bed rest.

She's been my easiest, but I still wouldn't wish girls on anyone. They're so moody and hormonal.

We're anxiously awaiting the birth of my grandson this weekend. It's one of those "could be any time" situations! I can't seem to keep myself out of the baby aisles at the stores!

Gemma Halliday said...

Thanks everyone!! I appreciate all the girly thoughts. Mr. Big informed me last night that he’s thinking boy thoughts. The booger. I need to out pink him.

Gemma Halliday said...

Lucy,

Um, yeah. I did that math, too. Lol! I guess it was a very merry Christmas. ;)

P.S. Lucy is one of the names I love for a little girl baby!

Gemma Halliday said...

Christina,

Thank you for the info! I’m going to look into the Standard Procees vitamins. At the moment, the only vitamins I can keep down are the folic acid supplements. I know I need a lot more than that, but everything else seems to make a repeat appearance. :/ Will check these out!

Tracy,

Yes! Peppermint tea is my savior at the moment. In fact, I've only got one bag left which means i have to make a trip to the dreaded grocery store later. Anyone want to go for me? ;)

Elisabeth,

Yes, I totally have 2nd baby syndrome! With my first, I could still hide it even at 6 months. This time, that belly popped out right away. I'm reading ll the baby books going, "Okay, she's the size of a pea. Why does my belly look like I swallowed a football?!" Sigh. Though, I did get some very cute maternity jeans at Old Navy the other day. And, I'm currently pouring through celebrity baby bump photos for fashion ideas.

Con-Grats!!
I am going overboard on the exclamation points, I know, but I'm just super excited for you! (there was another one, damnit)
Definite girly thoughts your way... I have mental images of lots of hot pink leopard print outfits and shoes. OH, baby shoes!
That is the only help I'm good for, since I have no pregnancy experience. So I'll think extra pink & non-sickness thoughts instead.
:D

Anyway, yay! Congrats! :D

Gemma, I take the Flintstone gummy bear vitamins at night. I did it while pregnant and told the doc. She said that was completely fine. I did bump it up to 3 a night (they do taste good). I figured 2 for me 1 for the babe. If taking them before bed still makes you sick, trying taking them with a meal.

Also for extra calcium, doc told me if I ate 1 or 2 Tums a day, then I was good to go.

One the baby bump, I was looking months pregnant BEFORE I was pregnant because of my fertilty treatment. People were asking me how far along I was. That stuff blows your belly right out!

Keri Ford said...

Geez, my spelling is terrible today!

Gemma Halliday said...

Thanks for the vitamin tip, Keri! Maybe I do some gummy ones. I have been taking the folic acid at night, as I generally feel least sick then.

Oh, and the boy is super excited about being a big brother. He keeps coming up to my belly and saying, "Coochi, coochi, coo." I don't have the heart to tell him the only person that it's tickling so far is me. Lol!

Congrats!

I haven't had kids yet, but my sister in law swears by Cold Stone Creamery's Chocolate Caramel Heaven to get rid of morning sickness. That and she sucked on hard candy (life savers) for the entire 8 1/2 months she was pregnant with both girls. (Both came 3 weeks early.)

Best of luck to you and Mr. Big. Boy or Girl, may your bundle of joy be happy and healthy!

Congratulations!!!! I hope Mr. Big's mother's stock runs to designer diaper bags as well :)

Can't help with the morning sickness as I never had it, but I will definitely send girly thoughts your way - they have the *best* baby clothes. And when you know for sure one way or another, I will also send a baby quilt your way. So exciting!

Oohhh . . . congratulations! Thinking pink, thinking pink. Yeah, it's been quite a few years but I had the all-day morning sickness with my daughter (but not my son) so maybe that's a positive sign that the girly thoughts are working. Saltines helped me the most and I was completely over it as soon as I hit the 2nd trimester. So hang in there. I've heard good things about peppermint, too.

Oh my gosh, congratulations!!! And don't worry about the "bump". I've had three girls--and was sick as a dog with them all, so good luck with a girl!--and by the third pregnancy I swear I was showing before I knew I was pregnant. :)

For the quezies, yes, peppermint is a life saver. As are Life Savers, and Sour Gummy Worms. And Baskin Robins Daiquiri Ice ice cream. And dry saltines, eaten before you get out of bed. And ginger ale. Yup, take those prenatal vitamins (good luck, those made me sick, too. Take on a full stomach) cause there are no vitamins in my food suggestions. :)

Just another thought (can you tell I LOVE baby talk?)--keep in close touch with your dentist. The second and third pregnancy were hell on my teeth, probably because the baby was taking all her vitamins and calcium from me while I was existing on ice cream. :)

Gillian Layne said...

And I totally agree with Keri on the Flintstones. My brother is seeing doctors at the Mayo Clinic because his digestive system has shut down on him, and they suggested Flintstones vitamins to him as well. Must be some good stuff in those little dinosaurs.

Wow, that would be so cool! Trust me, the second I hear the words "girl" from the sonogram technician, I'll be posting it here. ;)

I just had to throw in a website I finally remembered the name of..www.darlingbabyshoes.com, I went there and bought the little white shoes with the child's name and birthdate on the foot of each shoe.

They also have regular baby shoes too, so if your child has odd sized feet you can get em shoes from there.

Congrats again!

Angie Fox said...

Congratulations!!! Thinking lovely girl thoughts. :) Have you made it onto Baby Center.com yet? They have these Birth Boards where you're on a loop with everyone who is due in your month. It's really great to go through pregnancy with a bunch of ladies who know exactly what you're going through because they're in the same boat.

As for the morning, afternoon and night sickness? Yeek. No advice there. But I will say I was very sick with my daughter and not so much with my son. The theory is that it's all those extra girl hormones that get you. Fingers crossed!

Squee! I just logged on to take an exam and there was your exciting news, Gemma! Congratulations to you and Mr. Big--and Mr. Big Brother!

Uh, you probably don't want to hear that I didn't suffer from morning sickness in either of my pregnancies--even with the triplets.

And about that 'baby bump'. You ain't seen nuthin' until you've seen a baby bump associated with multiples. Eeow!

Once again, my heartiest congrats and best wishes for a complication free (and morning sickness free) pregnancy!
