The 2009 Fall TV Season is upon us. I've been trying to figure out my 'can't miss' shows so I can get them programmed into my DVR. This year I will have to be more discriminating about my viewing choices. I just don't have all that much time to watch TV. I won't tell you how long it's been since I went to a movie theater to watch a flick and how far behind I am in renting or watching recent DVD releases at the Video store. For a lover of movies, the truth is rather embarrassing.
Anyway, I checked out the new fall TV lineup--along with the returning series offerings--and it may not be as difficult to select programs to record and watch later as I suspected. First off, there are too-too many reality TV shows in the lineup. We have, to name a few, Dancing With the Stars, So You Think You Can Dance, The Biggest Loser, Survivor Samoa, Supernanny, America's Next Top Model, The Amazing Race, and Cops. Since I'm not a huge fan of Reality TV, I'll probably pass on DVRing any of these shows and try to catch Amazing Race when I can.
CBS's Tuesday lineup looks promising with the stellar NCIS followed by a new knockoff, NCIS:Los Angeles and The Good Wife, starring Julianna Margulies and Chris Noth which is worth checking out.
I will, of course be setting my DVR to include Criminal Minds, a long-time favorite of mine, and I'll give Grey's Anatomy a try even though the Izzy/Dead Denny story line was rather creepy.

'Tis the Season: A New Fall TV Lineup--or What the heck do I DVR?
Other favorites include 48 Hours Mystery, Dateline NBC, and all three of the Law and Order series. Since I will be in deep writing mode this fall and winter, I've had to be brutal about my choices. No more House, Numbers, or Cold Case. Sigh.
So, what shows--new or returning--are you looking forward to sitting down with a hot beverage and snack and watching this fall and winter? What are your 'can't miss' shows? Anything new you've heard about you think we all might enjoy taking a look at? Let us know.

P.S. Hope your household is on the mend soon, Les!

I'll probably catch Grey's again. I love Castle--and can't wait for its return. And I hope to catch a few episodes of Cougar Town. It looks HYSTERICAL.
I wish I had a DVR. *LOL*
I was wondering when Castle was going to be back on the schedule, MsHellion. Will it be back in January?
I also like Courteney Cox and thought Cougar looked like it could be good for some laughs, too.

I wish I had 2 DVRs. There are always too many shows for me to DVR. I am a reality junkie. Big Brother, ANTM, Survivor, American Idol, Top Chef, Ghosthunters, etc.
Big Bang Theory, How I Met Your Mother, I love Warehouse 13 on Sci-fi too. Not enough time in the day for all of them.
I have my DVR set to record SYTYCD, Castle (which I'm pretty sure starts next Monday), and Bones. And Project Runway. I try to catch Top Chef and have had to record it lately as well.
In the past several years, I've made an effort to avoid regular shows. I'm sure this sounds odd, but stay with me. Most of the reality ones are temporary. And if you miss a week, you didn't miss much.
I can't get emotionally involved in any more dramas because I'll get sucked in and never get anything done. As for sitcoms, I haven't found one that could hold my attention in years. No idea why.
The only show I really try hard not to miss is Jeopardy. Have to have my daily Jeopardy fix. But I haven't resorted to recorded those ones. :)
Next Monday, I think, I saw an advertisement. The 21st?
I'll be watching Bones, Castle, Criminal Minds, and NCSI. How am I going to get anything done?

I really got into American Idol last season, Kristi, and am anxious to see how Ellen D. works out this season as a judge. I also enjoyed HGTV's Design Star that recently finished. My daughter DVRs Ghost Hunters...

Jeopardy is my fave game show, too, Terri. I'd be a dismal contestant, but I love watching.
I understand getting sucked into certain dramas, but I just love the profiling aspect of Criminal Minds. And again, like you, I haven't found a sit-com worth watching for ages.
~Kathy~
Yay on Castle! I'll have to double-check and make sure I'm set to record.
Thanks, Ms. Hellion!

Ah, you'll manage, Crime Scene. You're a go-getter.

Bones is a MUST see for us, as are Castle and Criminal Minds. I may try Fringe again, though it became really weird last few episode, but they're supposed to have Leonard Nimoy on this season. *G*
I caught a couple episodes of Fringe last season, Brandy, and thought it was rather...bizarre. May try it again this season to see where it goes.

Psych is my favorite show and it's midseason now on USA. But as for the fall premieres, I am looking forward to NCIS, Smallville, Castle and Bones.
Also, Castle does start next week.
I've heard good things about Psych, Shel, but have never had the time to watch it.
I'm also ready for some football!

I wish I had a DVR. Not having one means saying goodbye to SVU this year, since NBC has moved it opposite Criminal Minds. Sorry, there's just no comparison. Also on my view list: Cold Case, House, NCIS, NCIS:LA, Ghost Whisperer, Medium and Numb3rs. I'm undecided about CSI and The Mentalist this year. CSI isn;t the same without Grissom, and I was never that committed to The Mentalist. And, with my regular Friday lineup returning, it means catching Monk and Psych when they re-air late Friday night.
This season of this show is very interesting. I have watched all episode of this season. When any episode I miss of this show. then I watch tv shows online free of this season....
I love Criminal Minds and can't wait to find out if Hotch is okay. I also want to know what happened to Ziva on NCIS. I wish NBC didn't cancel Life. It was an awesome show. FlashForward with Joseph Fiennes looks pretty interesting.
I'm sad I have to wait until next season for my fav show - CHUCK! Can't get enough of that show.
In the meantime, BONES, House, Grey's, Drop Dead Diva, and a few others will fill the gap!
Gotta agree with you on Crim Minds vs SVU, Heather. And ditto on CSI sans Grissom. It just isn't the same. And I still dopn't like Sara Sidles...
~Kathy~
Me, too, Jane! I really like the character Hotch and am anxious to see what's on the other side of that cliffhanger!
~Kathy~
Sounds like you'll have enough quality programming to keep you occupied until CHUCK is back, CheekyGirl. One of my daughters is a HUGE 'House' fan, too.
