I'm gonna need a bigger dumpster...

This blog post will be short and---well, not sweet. I awoke this morning to a flooded basement of epic proportions. I kinda knew something was amiss when the toilet wouldn't flush this morning. Have I mentioned lately that Iowa is becoming less and less appealing as a place to reside over the last several years? If it ain't six month long winters with one snow event after another, it's 500 and 100 year floods every year.

I've already ordered a dumpster to be delivered and as I type a pump is SLOWLY pumping water out of the basement. Unfortunately, there is more rain in the forecast.

Guess you know what I'll be up to for the next several days...

Hope your week was better than mine.

I hope that photo is stock footage and not a current shot from your street.

Otherwise they'll have to float the dumpster in on a barge.

And don't you mean down to? the basement.

Are the kids around to help?

Any way, hope the clean up goes smoothly.

Good thoughts coming your way. Hope the clean up goes smoothly and there are no more weather events.

Sorry to hear about the flood, and the more rain coming. Are you looking into relocating yet? I know I would be.

Eww, Kathy this sucks. hope you can get it all out soon without breaking anything (this includes parts of your body and the house!)!

Thankfully that pic does not depict the road near my home, Bookmobiler, but when you have three inches of water throughout the basement it's still a daunting sight.

I've had help from two of the kids this morning, and I'm taking a quick lunch break before I resume the cleanup.

I seriously need to look for new digs--preferably a place without a basement...

Thanks, Terry S for the positive thoughts. We could use some prolonged dry weather. After all, summer begins next week.

Definitely considering my options, Terrio. The city is supposedly 'working' on the solution at the present time, but I frankly don't have a whole lot of confidence the upgrades will help my neighborhood. It is discouraging when each spring you have to deal with this level of flooding.

I hear you on the 'breaking something' issue, Keri. I've got a roll-off dumpster coming next Wednesday and hope to have everything I'm tossing moved into the garage by then since I can only keep the dumpster 4 days.

I have been wanting to downsize but didn't want to go about it in this manner...

Can I join you in putting the hurt on Mother Nature? I'm tired of our constant tornado warnings.

I'm sorry! That sucks! And I'd totally look into moving because eventually that polar cap is going to melt, you know, and the run off is going to hit you guys first before it floods anyone else.

Sorry about the big, wet mess. Hope you're making progress with the clean up.

You betcha, Tori. I'm so ready to whoop 'Mother N's' behind. Especially when I look at the forecast for tonight and tomorrow: Tornado watch tonight with rain and hail. Heavy rain tomorrow.
This is friggin' ridiculous.

Thanks, Estella. I'm still sucking up water with the shop vac and sifting through soggy items. Ugh!

Thanks, Phyllis! It's a work in progress. The insurance adjuster is coming out Monday so, hopefully, we can expedite the claims process and get back to some semblance of normal.

Damn, Kathy. That totally sucks, especially after all the work you done to the house.

And I wish you could send some of that water down to Texas. We haven't had a drop of rain in over six weeks.

Yikes!!

Kathy, if I could I'd take a little of your rain. Hope clean up goes fast and easy.
