Stuff You Wish You'd Forgotten Already...

The winner of my favorite blog is Wendi Aarons of wendi-aarons.blogspot.com. This is the woman who wrote the famous letter to Proctor & Gamble, thanking them for giving Always maxi pads wings. This woman is too funny. Check her out!

And now, back to our original blog...

I was going through my fabulous iPod Nano (in orange no less) and the following idea hit me:

Ahem. Songs you will never see people singing to audition for American Idol:

  • Louie Louie - I believe it's a rule that if you don't know the lyrics, Simon gets angry. You won't like him when he's angry. Or is that the Hulk? I get them mixed up.

  • Convoy – C.W. McCall - Great song but try to audition with it keeping a straight face saying, "This here's the Rubber Duck. We gonna let them truckers roll, 10-4!" It is impossible and defies the laws of physics.

  • The Ballad of the Green Berets – Sgt. Barry Sadler - Such a corny song I'd almost pay someone to try it.

  • Run, Joey Run, Joey Run - "Daddy please don't! It wasn't his fault! He means so much to me! Daddy please don't! We're gonna get married! Just you wait and see!" Ahhh...a timeless classic.

  • Godzilla – Blue Oyster Cult - Can be achieved if actually dressed as Godzilla stomping on a model of Tokyo.

  • 99 Luftballoons - Nena - Come on, I know you thought about it. "Noneenon shooshtluft balones..." Or something like it.

  • I Wanna Be A Cowboy – Boys Don’t Cry - "Riding on the chuckwagon...following my man. His name is Ted...do you believe that?" Sheer poetry on a stick.

  • One Step Beyond – Madness - These three words are the only lyrics but this is a salute to one of the very first videos on MTV.

  • Day-O – Harry Belafonte - To do this right, you have to do the actions as seen in Beetlejuice.

  • In a Gadda Devita – Iron Butterfly - See Louie Louie. Same rule applies. No exceptions.

  • King Tut – Steve Martin - Not only is this on my iPod, I know all the words.

  • Mah Nah, Mah Nah - Some Muppets - This is my favorite. Nuff said.

I have a small confession. Not only are all these songs really on my iPod, I actually know all the words to all of them.

Don't judge me. What's on your iPod?

I see nothing wrong with those songs (for iPod use). I even like some of them.

*whispering* I don't have an iPod. Shocking, I know.

If I did, however, I'd have:

Animal - Def Leppard
Brand New Lover - Dead or Alive
Cheater, Cheater - Joey & Rory
Honky Tonk Badonkadonk - Trace Adkins
Jessie's Girl - Rick Springfield
Theme from Peter Gunn - Art of Noise

What's on my iPod? Nothing as good as these. Though I do have some songs in my CD collection I haven't put on there yet that would fit this blog. Songs like the lounge version of Limp Bisket's Nookie and the Jug Band Song from Fraggle Rock. I love that song!

I'd love to see someone audition with Conjunction, Junction.

Tori - Cheater, Cheater is the ring tone on my cell phone. It's the song that plays when my ex calls for my daughter. :)

I don't have an ipod, but I do have music on my phone.

My ring tone for my 22 yr old problem child is Basket Case by Green Day. For my 16 yr old it's the Muppet theme and for my 11 yr old it's Fraggle Rock.

I have Bucky Covington, Eminem, Alan Jackson, Kanye West, Garth Brooks, Tim McGraw, Kiss, Chris Daughtry, etc.

I'm the anonymous one. It posted too quickly.

I use my iPod (also orange - aren't they simply gorgeous?) mostly for listening to audiobooks in the car and when I'm exercising, so it doesn't have much music on it, but I do use my iTunes library on my laptop for listening to music.

I've also got "Menomena" by the Muppets (I'm not so sure of the spelling, but I've got the entire John Denver and the Muppets album and I choose to listen to it from time to time.

I was recently listening on shuffle when the them from "The A-Team" came on. Sure, it's from the "Napoleon Dynamite" soundtrack, but I actually enjoyed listening to the song from start to finish, singing along with the melody (no words).

I LOVE 99 Luftballons. Can't help but sing along to that one, and yes, it's in my music library.

I've never watched American Idol, but I would totally start if someone sang Day-O and did the Beetlejuice dance.

I LOVE this, Terrio! Lol!

I've yet to figure out itunes and load up my ipod, but I've got a current oldies fetish. I think Ricky Nelson and Johnny Cash top my list lately.

I have Jessie's Girl and Peter Gunn, but I NEED Brand New Lover! And I'm not familiar with Cheater, Cheater or these others. I LOVE the Fraggle Rock theme song. Geez, can you date us from our music or what. Of course if you did that, Gemma would be 70. ;)

I know I'm going to regret asking this.

Where the "huh?!?!" did you get that picture?

For some reason it reminds me of one of the singing cowboys. Roy Rogers or Gene Autry.

I'm not sure how well auditioning one of their songs would go over. Might be a good way to get shot!

Ahh...you noticed! That is a sneak peek into next week's blog. You'll just have to wait and see!
Mwah Ha! (Insert evil laughter here)

I don't have an i-pod. Sadly I am the only one in my family (including the 9 year old) who is I-pod-less. However, that doesn't mean I couldn't sing along to almost all those songs with you he he!

You are probably way cooler at it. I tend to sing when I have my earbuds in and no one knows what the hell I'm doing!!!

I don't have an I-Pod yet either. However, I listen to Pandora Radio on the Internet while working on my spreadsheets at work. Right now I'm really into the 80's disco. Have to watch myself, to catch myself singing along at work. People walk by my desk shaking their heads and muttering. Oh the life of a geeky accountant.

I don't have an ipod. This is no surprise since I can barely operate my cell phone.

If I did and could operate it, I'd have the POTC3 soundtrack on it for certain. A bunch of Johnny Horton songs. George Strait. Garth Brooks. Gary Allen. A whole bunch of 80s Big Hair Bands songs. And a whole bunch of cheesy pop 40 songs from the last 25 years.

Leslie Langtry said...

Linda, I'd be right there with you!
Hellion! What? Why not POTC1 or 2???

Who's hotter as a pirate...Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom or Geoffrey Rush?

No iPod, but I have to admit my guilty pleasure downloaded to my laptop is Baby Got Back by Sir Mix-A-Lot.

Though I need to find the Hamster Dance Song in honor of Leslie's blog illustration...

I'm just going to make some guesses then (Insert evil snicker here.)

It's got to have some thing to do with your next book.

Your changing genre to westerns.

The working title might be something like:

"Rodeo Rodent"

or

"Riders of the Furple Sage"

or it will end "with a hearty 'Hi Ho Silver!" and the bemused question "Who was that masked gerbil anyway?"

Leslie Langtry said...

Damn. I forgot about the hamster dance. I'd hoped that was gone from my memory forever. My kids were nuts for that song.

Ooh! Interesting guesses! You'll just have to wait and see!

I don't have an iPod, but I do have an mp3 player that's shaped like a shiny decorative rock. I got it free at Old Navy last year (okay I had to buy a shirt and a sweater but so worth it)...the best reason I ever got up before 4am. :)

Anyway! I've got some pretty random stuff on there:

A Little Priest-from Sweeny Todd (I haven't even seen the movie but I want to)
Several Japanese songs I found free online
Several Lemon Demon songs I found for free online
1234 - Feist
Call Me - Blondie
Rhapsody in Blue - George Gershwin
and if I had the chance The Fraggle Rock theme would also be there. :D

My music taste is kinda all over the place...not a bad thing though! xD

Leslie! Thanks so much for the mention! Hope you're doing great.

I also know all of the words to King Tut and regularly mumble "Got a condo made of stone-ya" whenever I'm downtown.

I would be in heaven if Adam Lambert sang "Tusk".
