Moustaches

Hey...guys, breaking news. Dorchester has posted their Mr. Romance 2008 contest. You have to check this out. Some of them even have facial hair. Oh yeah, I'm thinking good tickles here!

How do you ladies feel about moustaches? No, I’m not talking about on us! That is another subject for a whole new day. I’m talking about on our men.

Do you like ‘em? Love ‘em? Detest ‘em? Do you find them . . . kissable?

Personally, I mean . . . they kind of tickle, and I guess a tickle could be good, or bad, depending on the individual’s feelings on certain types of tickles.

Now I’ll admit, I’ve seen some hot guys with moustaches. I’m thinking Tom Selleck in his younger days. Moustaches that could lead to a kiss-me-now mood and possibly end with very good tickle. Ahh, but I’ve seen other mustaches that look as if someone could hide a small child under all that hair. Moustaches that could lead to a keep-that-thing-away-from-me mood and end with a very bad tickle.

Just out of curiosity, I did a quick Google search on moustaches and found that there was a lot I didn’t know about this hairy little subject.

For example, we have the standard Handlebar moustaches, not to be confused with Walrus moustaches, or the Fu Manchu Moustaches, (Now does that not sound like someone is hiding dinner under their hairy lip?) and then there’s the interesting one called, “Friendly Muttonchops.” I’m really not kidding!

Oh, but I’m just getting started, because I nearly choked on my coffee when I read about the “Pornstache.” Then there’s the “El Bigota.” Is it me, or do those two not sound as if they’re one in the same? I know you think I’m making this crap up, but nope and just to prove it: Pornstache

Now, you might be wondering what brought up this whole subject. I’m very relieved to tell you that it is NOT because hubby is thinking about growing his own Pornstache. Because he really doesn’t have what it takes. (I’m talking facial hair, guys! But you do know my hubby is going to kill me for this one, don’t you?)

Nope, hubby’s not thinking about a moustache. You see, Faye Hughes and I got the cover for our book, The Everything Guide To Writing a Romance Novel, a September 08 release. And much to our surprise, we discovered that Fabio was on the cover and he had grown a moustache.

Okay . . . we may be stretching it just a bit by calling our cover model, Fabio. But, you gotta admit, the similarities are there. Look at the nose. The long flowing hair. The puffy shirt with the lack of buttons. I don’t think I’ve ever seen Fabio wear a shirt with buttons, have you? (Not that I’m complaining!) And finally the . . . the big sword.

Anyway, after careful consideration, we decided he must be Fabio’s long lost cousin – the cousin who didn’t quite have what it took to do the whole modeling career.

So . . . what are your thoughts on moustaches? Kissable, not kissable? Do you know anyone with a Pornstache?

Oh, and if you’d like to learn more about the book and some of our workshops check out our website.

As a rule I like facial hair on a man. There are very few that I wouldn't have grow a mustache and/or beard. Many years ago, when I was getting my divorce, I met a man who did all he could to tick me off (and he was very successful, let me tell you). He didn't have any facial hair at the time but I was meeting some mutual friends for lunch one day and they brought him along for the ride. When I first realized it, I wasn't happy about it...until I saw the facial hair. We were the best of friends after that, and even went on the best date I've ever been on.

I'm definitely a facial hair kind of girl. :)

Hi Lucy,

So we have one vote for facial hair.

How do you other guys weigh in on the subject?

Thanks for posting Lucy!

Generally I don't go for facial hair. It's not so bad, but I really am more attracted to a clean-shaven face on a guy. In fact, when I was in high school I swore I'd never marry a guy with a mustache.
Well, guess what? When I was 18, I met a really cute, funny, smart, sweet guy who just happened to have a mustache. I fell head over heals and two years later I married him! Twenty one years later we're still married and he still has the mustache. I can't imagine him without it and don't want him to shave it.
So as far as my husband goes... definitely I'm a mustache gal. On other men...not so much.

Thank God I don't know anyone with a pornstache! That's just gross.

I like moustaches if they fit the person. It's kinda like bald heads - some men can pull it off, some can't.

I'm with Jana - some guys can pull it off, some just...can't.

My husband had a full beard when I met him but shaved it one day after I made a passing remark to someone else in his presence that I preferred clean shaven guys. Now he has a goatee and I couldn't imagine him without it.

The Pornstache though - need you really ask about that one???

Christie Craig said...

Wow, Beth.

Let me tell you, the surfing over to your site was worth the travel time. Wow! I think we have the same taste in heroes. Dark, sexy, not too puffed up, but just enough.

Thanks for posting. And so, you say...hair is okay.

Jana,

Yup, the Pornstache was just too much for me, too!

So Jana weighs in with the opinion that hair is okay, if it fits the mug.

Now about baldness. All the men in my family lose their hair early--I mean like in their early 20s. I've always thought my daddy was amazingly good looking, with or without hair. Now my husband, he has a head of hair, and says he doesn't care what color it turns, as long as it doesn't turn lose.

Christie Craig said...

Jenyfer,

So another hair is okay if it fits the mug.

And did I haveto ask about the pronstache? Hey, it was research and I couldn't not share it. ;-)

Thanks for posting girl!

I'm all about a goatee. Moustache I can take or leave. As others said, it's all about how it looks and maintenance. Gotta be well maintained. And that 5 o'clock shadow gets me too. I guess I'm not much on clean shaven.

About the pornstache, in the new Mike Meyers movie, Love Guru, Justin Timberlake plays a character with the pornstache. It's hysterical. And the fact he's wearing a speedo just adds to the overall look. LOL!

I do know a few men that sport really nice moustaches. They pull it off nicely. I've never given it much thought but, truthfully, I've never dated a moustache and I don't think I want that thing anywhere near my body. If my hubby ever grew a mustache I'd probably laugh him out of the house.

My husband has a mustache and has always had one. I told him it was grounds for divorce if he shaved it off. And he has a very full head of silver-white hair to go with it.

I gave my hero in my latest book, Windswept, a mustache, and he puts it to very good use.

I'm not one much for a beard, though. But it depends on the man.

Cheers,
Ann Macela

Not big on mustaches, but I do love me some 5'o clock shadow! There's something a man with that shadow. James Denton (I think that's his name!) comes to mind.

While I do enjoy the gloss of hair, I also am glad to see my hubby's smooth face. Nothing turns me off faster than having my cheek sandpapered.

Christie Craig said...

Terrio,

Too funny about the movie. A pornstache and a speedo. WOW! What a man.

So you vote for facial hair! Well-maintained facial hair. No leftovers hiding in the moustache.

Thanks for posting.

Hmm...I get all kinds of visuals, here.  :-)And I'm with you, if hubby tried to grow a moustache, I'd laugh and laugh hard.Crime Scene Christie

Okay Ann,

You are a full pro on facial hair.

Hmm...I think I like a hero who puts his moustache to use. I'm gonna have to pick up Windswept!

Love it. Thanks for posting.

I with you girl on the five o'clock shadow. However, it's fun to look at, but against my cheeks I love smooth.

I like stubble but not beards and moustaches. I liked them okay in the 70's and 80's but they seem rather old fashioned to me now unless they're very closely trimmed. Wait, that's called stubble.

And don't even get me started on body hair!

Christie Craig said...

Lark,

LOL. Body hair is a place we won't go. Well, now that you mentionit, I'm thinking it might work really well for another blog. :-)

Thanks for posting.

My dad has a mustache and I have found that I generally don't like a man with facial hair-I think it's too much of a reminder of him. Magnum was hot and I'd take Dave Grohl any way I could get him!

MsHellion said...

I'm not a huge mustache fan (though maybe it depends on the guy), but I do love goatees. (Nice ones, not ones that are braided--with the EXCEPTION of Jack's braided goatee, but then Jack's the exception to most rules).

Anyway, if a guy's got a goatee, I usually give him a second look. Even if he's too short, too stupid, too huskey, too scrawny (okay, they're never really too scrawny), too feminine, too jerky, too...whatever... A goatee will at least make me look a second time. I find them devilishly handsome.

The soul patch doesn't cut it. Nor does a mustache alone.

Personally prefer the scruggly 5-o-clock stuff though. I like being beard burned apparently.

MsHellion said...

Best demonstration of a pornstache: Justin Timberlake in the The Love Guru movie. You guys should check out the trailer and see a pornstache in full effect.

Plus he's in a speedo. It's really hysterical.

I prefer clean shaven to any type of facial hair. There are exceptions. I think Rowan Atkinson was hot as Elizabethan with his goatee. He is not hot as Mr. Bean. (any Blackadder fans?) However, I am married to guy with a beard.

MsHellion said...

Flip, I *loved* Rowan as Blackadder. Uber-sexy as the Elizabethan dude, and not at all in the others. *LOL* Or as Mr. Bean!

Tori Lennox said...

I'm not, as a usual rule, a big fan of facial hair. There are a few rare exceptions to that. Magnum P.I.-era Tom Selleck, Eric McCormack when he was in Lonesome Dove: The Outlaw Years.

I dated a guy with a mustache but his didn't do anything for me. *g*

Christie Craig said...

Beth Yarnall,

My dad didn't have a moustache until I was older. But I heart still goes sigh over Tom Selleck. I personally think he could pull off a Pornstache.

Tori,

I think we could start a Magnum, Tom Selleck fan club with everyone today.

Maybe we need to read Ann book and see how these guys need to work those moustaches.

My husband had a small one with a goatee once and I didn't mind it but I hate big old things and full beards - have you ever seen them with food stuck in it - eww yuk.

Christie Craig said...

Catslady,

Yup, I mean when someone's dinner is hanging out around the beard, it's time to shave!!!

Thanks for stopping by.

I don't think I've ever kissed a man with a mustache. A goatee yes. Those are hot. I don't think many men in this era have mustaches...but it COULD be a little bit sexy...maybe. I dunno. I'm going to need to do the hands on research :D
