My Seinfeld blog...it's about absolutely nothing.

Okay. I admit it. I totally forgot this was my day to blog. Somehow, somewhere, I lost a day this week. Maybe it's due to the fact that this is final exam week in many of my college courses and I'm up to here with term papers, PowerPoint presentations, essay questions and studying in general. Or it could be the fact that I received a revision email from my editor that rivaled my kids' Christmas Wish Lists in terms of length. Such a lovely, unexpected Yuletide surprise... Chris, you really shouldn't have...

Or maybe it was my inability to find a copy of my birth certificate that sent me scurrying to a distant county courthouse to secure said documentation before a snowstorm hit. Or it could be the general malaise that descends on me as the snowflakes (and temperature) falls. Just call me Boo Boo. When winter rolls around, I want to hibernate. Cold weather and I don't mesh. And every year it seems to get worse. I become a human popsicle. A grumpy one.

As I'm typing this Seinfeld blog (it really is about nothing, isn't it?) I'm wearing a set of long underwear, two pairs of woolly socks, jeans, a turtle neck and a hooded sweater. And yeah, the hood is on my head to keep my body heat in. In my effort to keep warm during the long cold winter,
I typically don my longjohns in October and don't take them off (well, except for laundering, of course) until spring. I suppose I should also admit to sitting on a heating pad to keep the ol' posterior toasty warm. On occasion I've even worn those gloves with holes in the ends of the fingers to type. Don't get me wrong. It's not that my house is cold--it's just me. Which accounts for the looks my kids and their friends give me when they see me curled up on the couch, blanket and my laptop to keep me warm.

Earlier this week I went for my yearly well woman exam.

"Are you experiencing any hot flashes yet?" my doctor asked and I stared at him.

"No," I shook my head. "Can you prescribe some for me?" I asked.

Well, folks, it's time to brave the elements and head to class.

Have I mentioned I hate snow?!?

Ahh, Kathy,

I hate the cold too.

Hmm...heating pad on the bottom. I might try that.

Good luck with the cold.

Hey, I write about nothing every day! *g*

*hugs* re the cold. I hate it, too. I'm ready for the 60s they're saying we'll have this weekend. Even if that is extremely bizarre weather.

I also hate the cold. I live on the west coast and we don't see the cold the way the midwest does.

I like the cold, not freezing cold, but cold enough to see snow coming down from the skies. After the first snow storm has fallen and looks pretty on the ground, then I wish for Spring.

The heating pad on the bum works like a charm, Christie. Whatya bet someone emails me that it causes cancer or something horrible?

Oh, well. Until then, ignorance is bliss!

Glad to hear I'm in such good company, Tori. After term papers and tricky plot devices, sometimes it's nice to sit down and scribble about absolutely nothing significant or world-changing, isn't it?

It worked for Seinfeld. :)

I keep telling my kids as soon as they are out of college I'm going to relocate to a more 'Kathy-friendly' climate, Estella. Someplace that never gets below seventy degrees would be nice. :)

Well good luck with your test. My husband wouldn't let me out of the house (he didn't want me driving in the snow) so now I have to go to the mall and make it up. Yeah, the mall at Christmas time. Is that worse than the snow?

Here in the midwest you hear a lot of people saying you can't get in the holiday spirit without snow, Dru. (Usually those folks who have big, powerful snowblowers that blow their snow onto the neighbor's sidewalk and driveway.)

I suppose it's nice to have a teensy layer of the white stuff for Christmas.

Once Christmas is over, however, I'm ready for green grass, too! January and February seem to drag here in the Heartland. At least as far as I'm concerned.

I can't say I blame your husband, Melody. The roads are nasty. I think it's improved some now that the snow has stopped.

You'll do fine on the test. I was in and out in fifteen minutes. Freedom!!!! Well, until next semester, that is... And I still have finals next week.

Maybe you should take your dh with you and point out some 'bling' that catches your eye at the jewelry store! It is, after all, the season of giving...!

Ah, Kathy, perhaps we need to trade homes. I am totally hot natured. Hugs on the revision letter - yuck.

Hee hee - I totally relate. It never really gets *that* cold in Cairo - maybe 50s in the day if it's really cold - but our house STAYS cold. We don't have central heat. Just a window AC that you can set to heat but the room will only stay warm as long as it is on.

I wear lots of layers.

But just last night I was pining for snow. I was actually thinking of trading my summer vacation in the US for a winter one next year. Maybe if I do that next year, I'll be cured for a few years??

PS - Forgot to mention that my father lives in extreme northern MN :)

I hate the cold also. Do like a little snow though.

Kathy Bacus said...

Thanks, Jana, for the revision commiserations. As it happens, I've got an unexpected day to work on them. A water main broke locally and school has been canceled for the day! Better get my heating pad cranked up...!

Talk about layers, Jenyfer--during the coldest months of the year I layer up so much I resemble a Minnesota Vikings lineman. I'm seriously considering investing in some of those 'feety' pajamas for adults much like the sleepers babies wear to keep all my body heat in.

The only 'white' featured in my idea of the ideal vacation spot includes is white sand beaches!

In my mind snow and cold go hand in hand, Stacy. And it looks like we're gonna get socked again tomorrow: more snow AND freezing rain.

I thought this was going to be a mild winter. Jeesch.

I'd rather be too cold than too hot because you can always add layers but there's only so much you can take off.

Meanwhile they're saying we're going to reach 80 or so today. Ugh!

Kathy Bacus said...

Oh, Lucy. Eighty degrees sounds heavenly to me. We're sitting at eighteen...

And layering poses some challenges when those holiday pounds start to pile on.

We're at a chilly 60 here. Okay, chilly for California means no shorts today. :)

Uh, so didn't need to hear that, Gemma, Bullet Hole says as she gets ready to venture out in the cold and snow to pick up some of those battery socks hunters wear.

And yes. I am wearing cuddly duds underneath my clothing.

And to think I was complaining, Jenyfer, when your pop has it SO much worse. They've been hit hard already this winter in the snow and cold department. It's beautiful up there in the warmer months, but winter is brutal.

Hope you enjoy HEADS WEST, Samantha. I'm working on final revisions for my May release, FIANCE AT HER FINGERTIPS and it's set in the summer months. I'm hoping that fact will help keep me warm. It's not a Tressa Jayne book, btw. My next CJ caper won't be out until next fall.

Thanks, anonymous! So glad you enjoyed CJ HEADS WEST! Yeah, October seems like a long time to wait for the next book, doesn't it? Still considering I still have to write much of it...

I'm also working on revisions for FIANCE AT HER FINGERTIPS. This was the book that garnered me a Golden Heart final in 2005. I really love the story and, fingers crossed, readers will, too!

Thanks for commenting!
