Random Thoughts Before the Big Blizzard Hits...

This is a Henry Rollins doll. I'd hoped to have him done in time for this blog, but he has no tattoos, face or even a head yet. So you'll just have to imagine it. You should've seen me explain to a group of elderly women at my doctor's appointment; "Oh, he was the lead singer of Black Flag - you know - the punk rock group from LA in the '80s?" Actually, it was somewhat easier to explain than Jana's demon ski mask, and almost as much fun.

The doll is a gift for my friend Todd W. (for some reason, I have a lot of friends and one cousin named Todd), who is quoted at the beginning of chapter 13 in STAND BY YOUR HITMAN. He had an amusing thing to say about howler monkeys. I promised the doll to him for his birthday last month. I'm a smidge behind. I've decided that for my next project, I'm making a Steven Buscemi doll wearing a pink, demon ski mask.

Speaking of HITMAN, here's a picture of me and my sister, Jenny, or Sami from HITMAN as you know her. Of course, Mom just wanted a cute Thanksgiving picture of her two little girls. Sami called me "Dumbass" and, well, you can see what she did next. That's a weird thing, having your baby sister grope you on a holiday. Or maybe that's normal.

Jenny/Sami texts me every Saturday about 6a.m. when she's up and working on a crossword puzzle. This week's question was, "What was that book, 'Guys and Dolls' - the one about drugs?" I responded, "Valley of the Dolls was the book about drugs. Guys and Dolls was a successful musical about a loveable bunch of gangsters." My sister replied with, "FANKS BUTTDART!"

We're supposed to get a crazy blizzard tonight (oh, it's Tuesday as I write this - in case you're keeping track), with 8-12 inches of snow, white-out conditions, 50 mph winds and subzero temps. All day long the weather folk screamed, "We're all gonna DIE!" I suppose I deserve that for still living here.

Stay warm, where ever you are.

Good morning Jenny and insane anonymous person. So it's going to be one of these days, it is?

That's too funny :) good luck with the snow. I miss it enough to be wishing I was there instead of here LOL

Leslie Langtry said...

Leona, have you lost your mind? Okay, i'll admit, it is pretty and the kids love playing in it.

Leona said...

Yes, I have! I moved to Texas, central Texas, from the great state of Washington. Need I say more? LOL I am moving back as my kids have not stopped being sick since we moved here last august.

It is pretty and if you don't have to rush any where, it is perfect this time of year :) Enjoy it and make lots of hot chocolate.

My mom used to make hot chocolate in a huge glass measuring cup (I mean huge) in the microwave. this was over 20 years ago before the microwave was the main staple of cooking! (My dad owned an appliance store :)

It was my favorite part of coming in from the snow. **sigh

*singing -Frosty the Snowman la la la la la la

I'm having hot cocoa right now! I find it's better if you drop a Dove milk chocolate into it and let it melt.

I'm just one state below you, but I just missed the 12 inch blizzard. The cold and the wind and slightly icy roads though, we didn't miss out on!

I could use a demon ski mask right now. And considering how my hair was for the first 2 hours of the day before I noticed, clearly it wouldn't matter if it messed up my do.

I'm really, really glad my sister doesn't grope me, by the way. Though of the two of us, I'm the one like Sami--but I don't grope my sister either.

Leslie Langtry said...

Hellion, I agree, sister-groping is weird.

Hi Leslie! We're in blizzard mode along with you today. Madison is almost completely shut down. About the only people working are emergency personel, newscasters and plow truck drivers. Last I heard we had about 15 inches with a light snow still falling. And now they've just issued a windchill warning from 3pm Wed until noon Thurs. Brrr!

My sister knows if she tried to grope me, she'd pull back a bloody nub. So we don't grope. Though my sister would never have the name calling imagination Jenny does. That would be fun.

I walked out of the house this morning into AUGUST. HUMIDITY in December? Really? So strange. It's 71 right now (around 1:30p on the east coast) and we're expecting a high of 48 tomorrow.

Commence the head cold.

Stay safe and warm! I have never heard this Dove chocolate in the hot chocolate tip. I HAVE to try that. Think it would also work with the Hershey Bliss? I have a bag of those already.

Leona said...

Yes, it works with Hershey Bliss. Dove chocolate, hmmmm. I like putting chocolate candy into the hot chocolate.

One time, I even made myself the hot chocolate treat. You know, with the whip cream and stuff?

You add choco candy to the hot drink, stir. Add Whip cream in tall frothy portions. Then you grate your favorite chocolate over the top. Get a spoon and enjoy :P

Y'all are making me hungry!

BTW - Did you ever watch Henry Rollins talk show on the Independent Film Channel? He's not the most natural guy, but I loved his rants. And he had the coolest guests.

Leslie Langtry said...

No I didn't. I remember him from Black Flag and videos and I've seen him on Sons Of Anarchy. He's very intense.

Leslie,

Here in lower Michigan we are just getting the 50 mph winds. Lots of trash can flying about. However this morning we had rain and melting snow. I mostly hydroplaned into work. We are expecting snow tonight, but not (I hope) blizzard conditions.

BTW I have werid friends just like your sister. So no, I don't think she is a bit strange.

I feel for you Linda. This weather sucks!

My husband's brother is the groper in our family but fortunately he's smart enough to restrict himself to my husband!

I spent last December in northern MN and not fully enjoying the non-stop snow action we got while we were there, but now I have a picture of the snow on my desktop and envy you your blizzard. Go figure.
