Can I Brag?

Can I brag? Just for a few minutes, or at least for one blog. Please…

You see, I’m awfully proud. I know, I know you think I’m about to pull out my grandmama book and show you some pictures of my precious granddaughter and probably tell you how cute she is when she says, “I wuv you” or tell you how she’s learning to count. “one, two, nine!” Hey, who needs three through eight anyway? So fine, you can bet your best pair of panties that I’m over the moon proud of that little girl. But today, for these bragging rights, I’m not going into grandmother mode. Well, no more than I’ve already gone.

The person, actually two persons—and my granddaughter could count that—I’m braggin’ on is my granddaughter’s mommy and daddy. That’s right. Jason and Nina are two very talented individuals. And I’m not talking about Jason’s cooking abilities or Nina’s gift of walking on her tip toes. Neither do I mean their making-the-perfect-grandchild talent or their parenting skills. Nope, the talent I’m touting today is their artistic talent.

Some of you probably don’t know this, but my daughter is an artist. (Some of these are at the show and some of them are from older shows.) I wish I could tell you she got all her talent from me, but nope. While I can paint pictures in my head and put them down on paper with words, my little girl could draw better than her mommy by the time she was three. “Draw me an elephant?” she would ask me. I would try and she would look at me disappointed and say, “Mommy, that’s not an elephant, this is an elephant.” She’d draw one and darn it didn’t look like an elephant. But in my defense, I did put a trunk on the stick figure.

But that little girl is all grown up now and her hubby, my favorite son-in-law (Shh, don’t tell him he’s my only one) is also an artist.

And this weekend they are part of a group show in Houston. So, if you are in the Houston area, and are into art, pop over to the show.

And now since I’ve bragged, I want to give you equal opportunity. Who are you proud of in your life? Who makes you smile? Who makes feel warm and gooey when you think about them? Come on, share a little.

Those are some great pictures! That's more than just mommy-bragging. :) Plus, she can live with another artist? I couldn't live with another writer if you paid me. *g*

I'm super proud of most of my immediate family. They all have things about them that just...wow.Like my daughter who is dyslexic and still wants to be a writer, my husband who works two jobs with no complaint, my father who is blind in one eye, deaf in one ear and still works because he wants to spend money on his grandkids... I am exceedingly lucky.

I think I'm going to have to write my own blog post, I don't want to bogart your comments. *g*

WOW! It IS amazing when your kids demonstrate talents you don't have. I love the artwork and congratulate them both on their show.

Mine are performers, altho' oldest gave it up for a real job, and middle one does local theater for fun. Youngest, the french horn player, may have a chance at a symphony position as a profession.

Does send chills up a mom's spine to see kids blossom.

The pictures are great! The two with the legs could be book covers.

My son is very creative and was going to be a sculptor. He gave it up for a steady paycheck, but he's still creative in other ways. And he's a great guy and a terrific father and husband. I'm heart-swelling, chest-puffing proud of him.

I still covet Nina's metal sculpture that used to reside in your backyard.

Momma deserves to be proud. Art is just another form of creativity, and you're a writer so all three of you have it.

I'm proud of members of my family too. Thanks for sharing, Christie.

Wait, aren't you a photographer too? Maybe she got her visual arts inclinations from you after all.

I'm very proud of my daughter who's made straight A's since she entered school and aced last years shockingly difficult upper level classes (her first year in high school).

I'm also proud of my awesome homemade chocolate chip cookies--one of the few things I do well in the kitchen. (I mention them because I'm eating one right now.)

Now I'd better go turn on the Wii Fit and do a workout because I'm not proud of the fact that it wasn't the first cookie I ate today.

Wow, those are awesome pictures, Christie! I wish I had talent like that. My mother was an amazing artist; she could draw such realistic pictures. I have no idea why she quit, but she hasn't drawn in decades.

I'm most proud of my girls. I know they're still very young, but they never fail to make me proud...or crazy, but that's another blog...LOL

Robin,

You are so right. There is nothing better than seeing our kids growing up to be successful and good-hearted people.

Thanks for stopping in. Good luck to your French horn player.

Edie,

My son in law is a sculptor and my daughter did some as well. Art can be expressed in many ways and one doesn't have to make their living at it for it be rewarding.

Congrats on your son. I can hear your pride in your email.

Rhonda,

Yup, I'm a photographer, and I know that's a talent, but I still would kill to be able to paint and draw.

And frankly, I wish I could be proud of your chocolate chip cookies right now. Yum!!

Thanks for dropping by.
