UFO's - Real or Science Fiction

Today, I figured I'd talk about one of the most controversial paranormal subjects - UFO's. There are so many theories on UFO's that they couldn't all be covered in 10,000 blog posts but I'm going to cover some of my basic thoughts on the subject.

1. There IS something out there.
2. It's an awfully big waste of space if we're the only ones in it.
3. Although I believe aliens exist, I don't think they've been here.

Okay, so point one. Too many people have seen things for me to think there's not something going on - no smoke without a fire. And what about the photos and videos? This is probably the most documented and ignored paranormal phenomenon on earth. Makes me wonder why. Now, is everything unidentified an alien ship - no. Look at all the photos over the past decade that lo and behold look just like the Aurora that the military released somewhat recently. Obviously a lot of people got a glimpse of new technology and yes, it IS unidentified but not alien.

Then there's the abductees. Do I think people have been taken - yeah, probably. Again - no smoke without a fire. But then I also have some conspiracy theory tendencies and someone tell me what better way to do illegal testing on your own people but to kidnap them and convince them is was aliens? Everyone will think they're crazy and then your government just got away with everything, hiding under the biggest lie ever told.

Point two. Are we really so vain that we think this vast universe was created simply as our playground? Personally, I don't think it was at all. If you believe in a God that created everything, then why would he stop with earth as the only place with intelligent life? If you think it was all a combination of particles and a following explosion, then why couldn't it have happened somewhere else on another galaxy?

Point three. This one threw you didn't it? Here I am yelling no smoke without a fire and don't be vain and then I go say that I believe they're THERE but not HERE. I used to think they were coming here, but this is why I changed my mind. Logic always wins with me and very few people on this earth could be considered as logical as Stephen Hawking. For those that don't know the man, Hawking is an Oxford educated theoretical physicist who is considered by many to be the most brilliant person of the 21st century. Hawking is most famous for his work on black holes although almost all his work involves cosmology as he believes our future lies in space.

I was watching an interview one day and someone asked him about aliens. This is essentially what he had to say - yes, he thought there could definitely be other intelligent life out there but that they had no come to earth. And that if they did, it wouldn't be in peace. Then he pointed out that historically, any time a more advanced civilization came upon a more primitive civilization, they either enslaved them or slaughtered them. Obviously if another culture can travel through galaxies and time to find the earth, they would be more advanced than we are. Not good for the home team, according to Hawking.

Makes you stop and think, doesn't it?

So, if I think there's something out there, and I do think there's aliens, but I don't think they've been here - what the heck do I think all those people are seeing that don't fall under the heading of drunk and disorderly or new military equipment? Well, I don't pretend to understand any more than just the barest minimum of the time -space continuum, but essentially there is a theory than space and time can overlap. I think that is what happens and what those people see is us, but a future us with future technology and perhaps even evolution. Maybe the earth undergoes a catastrophic event - meteor, earthquake, or even nuclear war, and mankind as we know it has to evolve to survive.

What about you? What's your theory?

I agree that aliens haven't been here. Unless you count my teenage daughter who seems to be inhabited with some force that isn't always human lol!

Personally, I side with the late, great Douglas Admas. It's raw arrogance that we believe humans are the only intelligent species on THIS planet.

So when the dolphins start chirping and clicking madly, they really ARE trying to warn us about the impending destruction of Earth to make way for a new galactic spaceway. . .

ROFLOL Wendy!!!! I have heard that theory about teenagers and you might well be right!

Suzan - Oh heavens, I never thought humans were the only intelligent life. Heck, I'm not even going to say that all humans are intelligent life. :)

I think anything is intelligent if it responds to cause and effect - which quite frankly makes some plant life intelligent also.

We once saw... something in the night sky when I was a kid. It didn't look like any aircraft we'd ever seen before. So who knows what we saw? :)

I've always agreed with the thought that this world is too big for us to be the only ones in it. But then, why do *aliens* have to look any different from us? There could be another *us* on another planet and they don't know we're here either. LOL!

I don't know if they've been here or not but I'm pretty sure people all over the planet have testified that they've seen something and many of the drawings look remarkably similar. These, of course, are people who could never have met and in some cases don't even speak the same language. So it does make you wonder.

Exactly tori - who knows, but by definition is WAS unidentified, right? :)

terrio - very true, but it could always be future us in a new-age space suit. Maybe we'll find out the answer before we die.

Personally, I think I've met a few aliens. A few of them are even family members. And yes, Wendy, I think some of them are inhabiting the bodies of teenagers.

Seriously, I've never seen anything, but then again, just because you can't see it doesn't mean it's not here.

Great post.

Christie - I've never seen anything either. Bummer. Not that I want to be close or anything....but an object far away in the sky might be okay.

I believe there is something else out there. I'm not sure that whatever it is , would it be something I would want to meet?

Jana DeLeon said...

estella - I think the answer for me is no. I still don't trust anything that much more advanced than me. Why would they consider me any more than the ants we crush under our feet every day?

I agree that it is rather arrogant of us to presume we are the only life force out there, intelligent or otherwise. Have they been here? I have no idea. I mean, we've been to the moon, so who's to say little green men haven't been here and decreed us too stupid to bother with?

Jana DeLeon said...

Heather - could be, but I just figured they might want our natural resources.....but then who knows?

I saw a strange bright light in the sky once, I still have not figured out what it could have been, then our local paper did a specialty section on UFO's and some guy said that he had seen something similar to what I had seen only he could see figures moving in it. A friend of mine swears he once saw a female passenger in a car whose face changed from a human to an 'alien' one and then back. But, do I think they are from another planet? No, I think they are from another dimension.

TJ - so you're all for the space/time overlap theory too, huh? It makes sense to me as much as anything else...and with my limited understanding of physics. :)

TJ said...

Jana - Well sort of. I do think it is possible that time/space do wrap around. But, I do not think that these 'aliens' are us in a future form as you theorized. I have been reading up on this phenomenon lately and how it might connect with the Bible. There are a growing number of people who think these aliens might actually be the fallen angels, and if they are, they are not here for our good.

I would hope that since "they" are more intelligent that they are past our ego driven world of war and intolerance. My favorite star trek episode was when an immature species was shown an advanced species and so they assumed that they had to be gods. I think that's what us humans have done. If it wasn't an advanced intelligence that visits/visited us, then we have the need to make one up. If it's something we don't understand, than we tend to worship it. So possibly it is an advanced us in the future - anything is possible.
